Fresh Forms

A Commentary of Beautiful things

Scottish Creative Awards: The Contenders

Spicy language from Irn-Bru, twin towns with Tennents and someone forgets to put their phone off in the cinema. Some great work recognised here showcasing home grown talent.

Some statistics? Sure! In total there were over 160 nominations spanning 43 catagories involving 28 agencies. That’s a big list so Fresh forms have picked out the most nominated, renowned and notable projects for your viewing pleasure.

Big Hitters

Newhaven Communication

Clients featured: Tennents; Poppy Scotland; Carat; City AM; Children’s Panel; Historic Scotland and Bawbags.

This agency is the most nominated out of the lot and are ranked in the top 100 agencies worldwide by D&AD. With an impressive portfolio in a wide range of categories this collection of talented creatives set the bar high. The twin cities billboards have caught everyone’s eye with their personalised wit for each city, something that we don’t see very often in Abu Dhabideen.

The Leith Agency

Clients featured: Irn-Bru; Visit Scotland; Scotland’s International Image; ON at Fife; Burness and Aldi.

Known for  Iru-Bru ads and their abominably poor logo for Creative Scotland, Leith is the nominee I am most familiar with. Hailing from Edinburgh, this team entertains time and again, often hitting the headlines. The release of Irn-Bru’s new fiery drink saw Leith churn out some corkers including these hillarious virals that would leave viewers with a taste of spicy censorship.

Breaking News – The Leith Agency have been appointed the advertising agency of the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2014. Possibly some humour will be used, at last!

The Union

Clients featured: Matthew Algie; Scottish Government; National Library of Scotland; Buccleuch Rural Solutions; Cycling Scotland; Road Safety Scotland; The Dalmore; STV Euro 2012 and Sterling Furniture.

The live cinema advertising gets my vote for the best thing I’ve seen all year. This agency have created such a varied selection of solutions for their clients always with a professional feel. If it’s experimental your looking for, unite with union.

Notable Entries

Axis Animation

Online film: Age of Empires for Microsoft/Ayzenberg

Slick renders and faultless character movements with a stylised scenes. Slow-mo’s will never go out of fashion.

The Bridge

Copywritting: Tae a Pint for Belhaven Best

Lyrical sensations from The Bridge.

MediaCom Edinburgh

Media Planning: SubBeat for Subway

A six inch sub as a harmonica? This is genius.

Those are my favourites but there are loads more where that came from. For the full list visit the website. The Awards will take place on the 7th of September in Glasgow’s Radisson Blu Hotel and shortly after that Fresh Forms will keep you in the know with the results.
